More About Alex As A UI/UX Designer
Alex's passion for accessibility and disability in software design is very evident in his first independent design, Daysy. Daysy is a daily routine and activity planner, that is almost entirely picture based. The case study for this app was done with help from the Autism Society of North Carolina and many other families/parents/individuals affected by Autism.
Alex has also just recently completed a case study for a mobile food truck ordering app, StreetBite. This was done for the Google UX Design Professional Certificate, and has been well recieved by peers at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Currently Alex is a UI/UX Designer on a client team with App Team Carolina, a student-led, nonprofit startup. Check out my work on my Design Portfolio.
As a Musician
Alex fell in love with the trumpet at the age of 11, when he found a relative’s old trumpet in his grandmother’s attic. He immersed himself in the world of daily practicing, weekly lessons, local auditions, concerts, competitions, performances, marching band participation, and recitals. By 7th grade he realized he was especially drawn to the language of jazz. The next year he transcribed Louis Armstrong’s solo in “Hotter than That” and performed the solo by himself at a concert, to a standing ovation.
He feels fortunate to live in an area where he can participate year-round in the Philharmonic Association’s jazz ensembles (including three years in the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble) and experience the many opportunities to provided by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to play and hear jazz music (including the regional Essentially Ellington competition and the UNC Summer Jazz Workshop).
Locally, he has performed in the pit orchestra with Raleigh Little Theatre and the NC Conservatory, as well as church services, weddings, graduations, and a variety of holiday gatherings and special events.
More recently, Alex has begun creating and producing electronic music in Ableton Live as well. Listen in the Music tab!
